Prof. Hyunggon Park

Short Biography

I am a Professor in Multiagent Communications and Networking Laboratory (MCNL) at the Ewha Womans University, Seoul, South Korea. I received the B.S. degree in electronics and electrical engineering from the Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), Pohang, Korea in 2004, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Los Angeles, CA, USA in 2006 and 2008, respectively. In 2008, I was an intern at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, Hawthorne, NY, USA, and a senior researcher in the Signal Processing Laboratory (LTS4) at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland in 2009-2010.

My research interests include game theoretic approaches for distributed resource management strategies for multi-user systems and multi-user transmission over wireless/wired/peer-to-peer (P2P) networks, efficient and robust multimedia streaming strategies using network coding, fairness paradigms for resource management using game theory, and cross-layer optimized wireless multimedia transmission using resource and information exchange. Currently, I am involved with several projects while collaborating with EPFL (LTS4), IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, and UCLA.

I was a recipient of the Graduate Study Abroad Scholarship from the Korea Science and Engineering Foundation (it is now National Research Foundation of Korea, NRF), and a recipient of the Electrical Engineering Department Fellowship from the UCLA (2008). I also received several travel grants from several international conferences such as International Packet Video Workshop (2007), SPIE Visual Communications and Image Processing (2008), and IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing (2009). I serves or have served as Guest Editor of a special issue of the Elsevier Journal Signal Processing: Image Communication and of a special issue of EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking. I am a senior member of IEEE, a key member and a voting member of Interest Group on Media Streaming of the IEEE Multimedia Communication Technical Committee (MMTC).
